Biographical Info:

Anna Hernandez was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a 1st generation daughter of hard working Mexican-born parents. Before being an elected official, Anna spent the majority of her career in banking, specializing in mortgage lending followed by commercial lending.

Anna began getting involved in community organizing and advocacy work with a heavy focus on police accountability after her little brother, Alex, was killed by Phoenix Police in April 2019, while he was facing mental health issues. Her family was then impacted by the loss of her father in January 2021 to COVID, after being forced to return to his maintenance job during the pandemic.

In 2022 Anna decided to run for State Senator for Legislative District 24. She serves on the Senate elections committee, as ranking member on Senate judiciary committee, co-chair of the bicameral housing work group, and is the current chair of the Arizona Legislative Latino Caucus. Since being elected she has proven she can get bi-partisan results on affordable housing, abortion and reproductive rights protections, mental health solutions, community safety, and police accountability while staying committed to her values.

Anna is rooted in community, is pro-humanity, and will fight for the right thing even if it is not popular. Her work is, and will continue to be, focused on how to get critical resources to her community members and improve the material conditions for those most impacted by system issues.

Statement:

I decided to run for Phx Council District 7 provides an opportunity to influence the city budget to be more equitable and fight for investments that our communities need. Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the country and our communities need to have a champion that will fight for investments through the city budget that will address the root cause of the issues facing our residents and will work to co-govern with the community. As in my previous race, after having multiple conversations with community leaders and partners, we collectively decided that I would be the best candidate to represent our community in that office.
