Masters DegreeBiographical Info:
I was born in Texas and come from a military background, affording me the incredible opportunity to live in several states. For the past 18 years, I have been happily married to my husband, Ryan. Our family includes two children, currently enrolled as a sophomore and a junior in QCUSD Schools. We attend Rock Point Church where we have volunteered.
Equipped with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, I teach Pre-Kindergarten outside the district’s boundaries, while also working as substitute teacher. My professional journey has encompassed roles as an elementary school educator, spanning from Pre-K to 3rd grade as well as resource positions. I am conservative with an emphasis on family values and parent choice/involvement.
Community Service- Previously, I served on the Parent Teacher Organization at Desert Mountain Elementary School as the President. During that time, I helped the school raise more than $400,000. I have also served on the QCUSD Strategic Planning Committee and the QCUSD Financial Advisory Committee. I currently serve on the Political Advisory Committee for Bonds and Overrides, Pima Medical School BSPTA Advisory Board Community Committee, Moms For Liberty, Pediatric Family Advisory Council, and the American Legion Auxillary serving our military veterans and families. One of my most recent initiatives involved coordinating a Christmas Gift Angel Tree program for a nearby senior citizens’ facility. I also serve on the Cheer, Tennis, and Soccer booster clubs.
Awards Received- During my first term our governing board was awarded the Lou Ella Kleinz Excellence in Governance Award which is the highest honor a school board can receive in Arizona. Most recently, I was personally awarded the Collaborative Leadership Award for Governing Board Members among all School Board members in Arizona.
Statement:
As I stand for re-election this year, I am compelled to reflect on the last 8 years and their significance as a board member. I believe that being an effective board member means being involved and having the right priorities. I have worked incredibly hard to serve our community over my time on the board. Every time I drive by a QCUSD school I have a true sense of pride and a thankfulness for privilege of serving on the Governing Board. I have always put students at the forefront of any decision. I also hold admiration and gratefulness for our amazing teachers and staff.
To be an effective board member and to make sure I have all the information to make the right decisions, I have never missed a single study session or board meeting over the previous eight years, even when it means that I have to miss our daughter’s games or events. I study my board agenda and research topics prior to the study sessions and meetings. There are many times where I have met with the superintendent/staff multiple times to gather additional information to make my decisions.
Transparency and fiscal responsibility are important values to me. I recognize the significance of these principles in ensuring the trust and confidence of our stakeholders. Throughout my time on the board, I have diligently worked to uphold transparency in our decision-making processes and to ensure that our financial resources are managed responsibly.
Student Events- Students are really the entire reason for a Governing Board in the first place. I show my commitment to students by making sure my votes put them first. I attend their graduation ceremonies and participate in scholarship/awards ceremonies to show that I support and am proud of student achievements. I have judged art shows and spelling bees, I attend Parent Information Nights, Orchestra Performances, Athletic Events, Suicide Prevention meetings, Science Nights, and school events. Being in the company of students is a source of joy for me, as they serve as constant reminders of the purpose behind my work.
Teacher/Staff Events- Ensuring our teachers and staff feel valued has also been a top priority of mine. I have advocated for higher employee salaries and competitive benefits over the last eight years. I seek out the thoughts of a variety of teachers and staff before voting on items, so that I do not lose touch with their perspective. I have served as an organizing member on all bond and override committees since 2015. This work is close to my heart because it directly benefits our students, teachers, staff, and community.
In addition to advocating for improved salaries and benefits, I express appreciation through other actions such as attending employee benefit days, new staff orientation, and career fairs. Each year, I personally extend a warm welcome to new teachers through individual emails. Furthermore, I demonstrated personal support by sending handwritten cards to high school teachers and staff members during times of loss. During challenging periods within the transportation department, I crafted cards and distributed small tokens of appreciation to all bus drivers. Collaborating with Molly Jacobs, I helped to organize a district wide staff appreciation event. The event featured an inspiring public speaker and gift card giveaways.
Community Engagement- Community engagement and involvement is another area that I am very passionate about. I work hard to create a strong community around our schools by participating in CAFÉ meetings, Business Partner Breakfasts, Interfaith Luncheons, Veteran’s Day events, Joint Town Council Meetings, State Of The Town and numerous ground breaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies. I volunteered to take on the role of PTO Liaison to create a connection between the district and the PTOs. I help to facilitate two meetings a year with PTO Representatives and Administration. I make a very intentional effort to respond to emails that I receive. I always try to make myself available to talk with members of the community.
Future- When re-elected, I will continue to work hard to serve our community. I believe that my leadership and dedication is evident in the actions that I have taken over the past eight years. I remain steadfast in prioritizing the well-being and advancement of our students above all else, alongside ensuring that our amazing staff members feel appreciated and valued.
