I grew up in Minot, a small city in north-central North Dakota. Despite a chaotic home environment, through determination and hard work, I earned a Bachelor of Arts (psychology) and a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (nursing). I served proudly in the US Air Force, Nurse Corps, for 20 years, retiring with an honorable discharge as a Major. I worked for a total of 37 years in the healthcare field, mostly as a women’s health nurse practitioner. My medical experience spanned over military clinics and hospitals, medical readiness field training units, small Ob/Gyn clinics, low-income clinics, and the largest HMO in the United States. In addition to my military and medical experience, I have also been working closely with the Pinal County Democratic Party (PCDP) as a Precinct Committeeperson (PC) and a State Committee Member (SCM). Additionally, I worked for the past 2 years at the Pinal County Early Voting Office, which clarified to me our free and fair election system.
Statement:
As an American, a retired women’s health nurse practitioner, and a retired US Air Force Major, I am deeply distressed to find myself living in a crucible of hate, division, and attempts to extinguish basic human and civil rights. It is inconsistent with our Constitution! Extremism is never the solution!
Our individual rights and our democracy as a whole are being threatened from within our country. I see that we clearly must defend against these attacks at the local, state, and federal levels. I firmly believe that all issues are important, from disintegrating roadways to contaminated air and water to a crumbling democracy. As an Arizona State Representative, I plan to work vigorously for the rights of “We the People”- meaning ALL the people of Arizona. I plan to work to restore, retain, and ratify our rights. I sincerely support everyone’s rights. We must stand strong and protect these precious rights to personal privacy, decisions regarding bodily autonomy and reproductive healthcare, choice of relationships, types of reading materials, and choice to worship or not.

---|---|---|
1. Interpreting the 2nd Amendment as protecting an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. | S* | Bear arms does not translate into a right to have an arsenal of assault weapons. Gun rights include responsibility for training in safety and security. |
2. Adding “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” or “gender expression” to the protected classes of race, religion, age, sex, and ancestry in nondiscrimination law. | S* | I believe in inclusive laws. Our Constitution is for "We the People," meaning all of us. |
3. Amending the Arizona State Constitution to grant a fundamental right to every individual to an abortion. | S* | The abortion law from 1864 is despicable and deadly! Individual rights to privacy and independent decisions about our reproductive health must be protected! |
4. Securing the border by preventing all illegal crossings. | S* | Securing isn't "closing!" Walls stop trade and tourism, not people. Cost-effective humane suggestions are critical. Funding and cooperation are needed to find good solutions. |
5. Using taxpayer funds to support any organization that performs, promotes, or provides referrals for abortion. | S* | Abortion is part of women's healthcare. It can be lifesaving and fertility conserving. This medical treatment should be taxpayer supported like other medical interventions. |
6. Allowing all parents to use tax credits and taxpayer funded empowerment scholarship accounts to enable their children to attend any private school, homeschool, or online academy of their choice. | −* | Yes & No: I support tax credits for disabilities. I don't support the gift-to-the-rich voucher system. It's attempting to destroy public schools. |
7. Legalizing physician-assisted suicide. | S* | It's a humane way to help patients and families deal with difficult end-of-life issues. It promotes autonomy and alleviates suffering and financial burdens. |
8. Allowing parents to seek professional counseling for their minor child with same-sex attraction or gender identity issues. | S* | This sensitive issue needs to be easily addressed by parents, while allowing the children to feel accepted, not ridiculed, in their situations. |
9. Permitting individuals and businesses to not provide services or promote ideas that violate their moral or religious beliefs. | O* | Our laws must not allow discrimination of any kind...period. |
10. Keeping the flat income tax rate in Arizona’s state tax code. | O* | It's another gift to the rich! Everyone needs to pay their fair share of taxes. Ultra rich should not continue to get off scot-free! |
11. Requiring any government entity, including schools, to inform parents about their child’s physical, emotional, or mental health. | −* | Not yes or no: Some things must be reported (i.e. those which pose possible harm to the student or others). Some pose a risk of parental abuse. |
12. Enhancing penalties for the sale and possession of fentanyl. | S |
